Your Lands, Your Wildlife Campaign Partnership Guiding Principles
Please join the Your Lands, Your Wildlife campaign and our other campaign partners in supporting the following principles to protect our public lands.
Resolution to support healthy lands, healthy wildlife
Today - as a result of unbalanced wildlife policies on our public lands and continuing development pressures - the health of our National Forest and Public Land Systems and the wildlife that call them home are in jeopardy. In order to restore balance to the management of our public lands, we support efforts to sustain wildlife and other public values. After all, healthy wildlife populations mean healthy lands.
Whereas:
- Present and future generations of Americans rely upon healthy national forest and BLM lands for many social, economic and natural public benefits, including bountiful and imperiled fish and wildlife resources, unparalleled recreation opportunities, clean water and air, climate security and sustainably produced economic goods and services.
- It is impossible to provide present and future generations of Americans with these social, economic and natural public benefits from unsustainably managed, unhealthy lands.
- Healthy, sustainable wildlife populations indicate healthy public lands. Declining populations of wildlife on public lands tell us that we are not being good stewards of the land, its resources and the associated public benefits.
- As beneficiaries of the benefits and values of national forests and BLM lands, it is our responsibility to ensure that these lands are managed to provide sustainable social, economic and natural benefits for all Americans now and in the future.
Resolution:
We call on Congress pass the America’s Wildlife Heritage Act (H.R. 2807) to require the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management to sustain the wildlife populations that exist under their jurisdictions; to utilize sound, science-based wildlife conservation planning; and to coordinate wildlife conservation planning amongst federal and state agencies, tribes, local governments and non-governmental organizations.
